what sort of max stable overclock would be expected from a watercooled E6600?obviously i intend to get a good motherboard and ram ect just wanting to know what the chip is likely to be pushable to.

w3bbo,
What do you run at 24 x 7......surely not 4Ghz ??
Also, i thought you had sold that exceptional cpu.

I am getting 3.4GHz stable on WC.
BUT..... I know my CPU is not flat and I am not getting proper block to CPU contact until I can be bothered to strip it out and lap it!!
Am hoping once I have done that I can up my overclock and it remain stable.

Stay Phunky!!

TBH mate it is pot luck. I have a batch 40 a (if memory serves me) and have read posts saying the later batches of e6600 don't clock well at all. Well this isn't true. My 40a E6600 has reached 3.6 on water with 1.47v running through it. Its OCCT stable just have to do orthos overnight to check. And tbh I havn't done the pencil mod to my board that helps with the vcore so I maybe able to run on less volts at that speed. I only started to up the FSB last night so have lots of playing to do lol. But unless you buy a second hand CPU off of the MM with proof from the seller it did 3.6 or whatever its gonna be pot luck.

Its all down to luck if you have a good clocker - obviously watercooling will help to get a higher clock.

My CPU on air would top out 3.5ghz (freezer 7 - 3.5 hour orthos stable)

With water 4.0ghz (3 hour stable)

Will sit nicely at 3.7ghz - 12 hour orthos stable(possible more) 47oC load

Its all down to if you have a good clocker or not

Yup the 4ghz is now gone. Its now been replaced with one thats running on a lot less vcore @ 3.9ghz 24/7 (1.52 bios, 1.48v actual). I wasn't happy running 1.65 through the core 24/7 even though temps were not a problem on my old chip so I sold it off for a massive profit and got me a 27b in trade.

I can live with 100mhz less without running crazy vcore, I run at this speed 24/7 as its in the 'comfort' zone as far as temps/vcore go.

12hr stable of course - I aint one for not backing up my claims :p

It is very much luck of the draw though, experience, decent components and cooling can only get you so far.

yeh the 27B is a great batch, 3.75ghz 1.4v (bios) is my 24/7 setting load 45c

if you're buying a chip now i don't like your chances tbh they don't seem to be hitting as high with low volts as earlier weeks.
