Watercooling - Any need these days..??

Exactly the same as me. Hate noise

Same for me, but just as important is lowering the temps, which allows me to overclock further

for some reason mine just load as air
Do you mean your load temps with watercooling are the same as with aircooling?

That is surprising, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that an increase in ambient temp from 18C to 26C only caused a 2C increase in load temp on my system and that is with only the PSU and a very slow 80mm fan as exhaust.

Having just removed the IHS on my Opteron 144 I've seen some fantastic temps that only WC can give, even with todays warm evening my 144 at 3Ghz with 1.6V hasn't gone over 36 degrees while running Prime95 blend, and the noisiest thing in my system is the hum from the hdds.

Having just went back to water again, I'm now seriously considering retiring my raptors for a pair of Spinpoints.

Tell me about it, my hdds need a total overhaul, so I'll be finding the quietest drives I can.

Thanks for the IHS popping thread too mate, very useful this evening :)

Yah, I got to agree on the noise of my raptors

To be 100% honest, I ran a couple of quick ( I say quick, cos thats all they were... Just quickies ) on comparing the Raptor against a Seagate 80GB SATA Drive, and to be honest, it wasnt really worthnoting the results down, it was that close.

I thinkthe Raptor edged out in front with lots of smaller files, but the seagate edged it for larger ones ( or was it the other way round? ) anyway, its showed me, that I wont bother with a raptor again, not for the price.

At the end of the day, my Raptor is given 8GB for C: and the rest is for T: and I have my Setup files for games and Apps ( Mostly in ISO format for Alcohol120% ) so assigning a raptor just as an archival drive, shows how little it has impressed me, however, Windows itself does seem to have an edge in speed over not using it, I have to also admit that.

I am soon to be moving my Raptors from my main PC into a lesser model... Possibly my daughters, cos she needs a fresh install soon and she could do with a boost as her HD hes started to develop a few baddies ( Typical WD Junk ) Magically only a week after its 3 year warranty was over funnily enough!

LOL I have spinpoints and was thinkin of getting raptors for more ooomph, why is the grass always greener??

Does the noise / performance ratio mean that we are never happy??

Right, my latest plan, is maybe go m-atx - silverstone TJ08 case - good for lans but still very practical. mmmmm 2, 120mm fans = watercooling possibilities in m-atx :D

XP-120 on cpu and watercool GPU with single 120mm Rad - should be same number of fans as my 120.2 and therefore same noise, similar cooling in a tiny case.

I was looking at those cheap swiftec blue rads here on ocuk (thin ones) DO you recon they could cool a x1900? Got to be better than any air solution (based on previous posts)

Was thinking just a small loop 3/8" with T-line and MCP350 pump and that thin blue rad, got to be a winner :D

Cheers guys, like I say, should be a winner :D

I hope I get round to doing this soon. I've been workin in Malaysia for last 9 months. Hence my crazy post times. I only been home for 5 weeks in that time. I bought my opteron 146 before christmas and it's still in its box.

Eventually I'll post some pics when I get home and shoe horn it all into the TJ08.

You seen that case? Looks sweet. Classic and small(ish).

Thanks again... :D
