watercooling noises

Remember the gurgling sound - if you hear it again once the system quietens down - it means you have a leak! I know this now and won't leave it running for a week before investigating next time. UV carpet stains

Hmmm... black bits come out of the loop? Probably copper oxide, but where from?

Did you flush the radiator in the end?

Nice loop, by the way!

Heh no in the end I figured it would probably be ok, but I guess its sort of been flushed now! Everything in the loop is new now apart from the rad (came into a bit of money) but that doesn't mean that's where they came from. Hopefully it's cleanish now.

Cheers for that mate I'll make sure I keep an ear out for it! Still haven't had time to finish bleeding the air out yet. Working a split shift today and then I have to get up at 7.15 so not much chance of it happening until mid-week!

Yes, just to further that: air bubbles in the loop can make the whole thing sound like its pushing sand around the system.

It might actually take a couple of days for all the air to come out of the system. Thinking back to it, I'd actually run the pump for a couple of hours and then leave the system to stand for a couple, too, to let all those tiny bubbles out of the solution... half the time, they're what actually makes the water in loops cloudy.

Small update/thread revival..

Yeah it does sound like sand. This morning I've had some time so I unscrewed the rad and shook it about a bit, I found a big air bubble came into my tubes so I switched the pump on.. I think some air came out through the res from doing this.

Then I tried (with the pump running) turning my rad vertically and holding it, this created a fair bit of turbulence and noise in the loop.. I got a bit worried so I stopped doing it and turned the pump off - I noticed black bits in my tubes again :( I really don't want to drain and go through it all again! argh.

not sure how bad it is yet.. it almost looked like there was black powder in the loop, sort of swirling about - but it may be because the rad was behind it so could have just been bubbles that looked black. I'm not sure yet, can't see it now..

not that anyone's reading this but...

I drained the loop again today, there were some black bits inside, although less than before so hopefully it will be ok now - I also found some PTFE tape came out! System is refilled now.. one day I WILL get my block fitted!

Did you make sure you had cleaned you RAD before putting it into the loop. When i cleaned mine i got black bits and black sand type stuff like you described...

It was bought secondhand and had been used so I figured it should be ok! Guy I bought from did say it was always best to have the good habit of cleaning it but well tbh I wanted to get done.. it's had 2 rinses with Feser1 now so hopefully I won't have any more problems! No idea if the black bits would have actually hurt performance in anyway I'm just a perfectionist sometimes..
