Watercooling Setup

Hi,

I'm after water cooling my system mainly to make it quiet but to also overclock it a little bit more :). I don't really have a budget as i'll be buying the components over a few months to spread the cost and stop the Mrs having a heart attack :p. I would like to (sadly) keep to the Gigabyte theme of black and blue as well.

My Setup:
Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 Case (so should be able to mount 2 x 240 rads)
Intel i5 3570K @4.5Ghz (currently cooled with Corsair H55)
8Gb Samsun Green RAM
GA-Z77X-D3H Motherboard
ATI HD7970 Matrix Platinum
Liteon Bluray drive
Bitfenix Recon Fan controller
OCZ 600w ModX PSU

This is my case layout at the moment.

I've seen the VGA cooler that it suitable (i think :)) below but the rest I don't have a clue about.

i had bluray drive and the recon fan controller. (which i dont mind getting rid of and use mobo fan controllers?) so yes i can get free 2 bay one way or another :)

oh there is a 2 channel fan controller (which is currently disconnected) built into the top of the case (so could use that instead of recon)

I think the XSPC D5 EX240 kit is a good base. Although I do think the tubing will be a bit more awkward with a 2nd 240 in the front of the DS1 and on top.

So in terms of what to buy on top of the kit, you'll need:
Extra 240mm rad + 2 fans
4 x 16/11mm compression fittings (7/16ths in old money)
And that waterblock you've already picked out.

Side note for myself: I really need to figure out how to use that google checkout stuff
 
As long as you use inhibitor you'll be fine to mix copper + nickel. Personally, I still avoid having aluminium in my loop.

For ease of use and low maintainance, I highly recommend Mayhem's pre-mix. It's not that cheap, but considering once your loop is setup, it should be good for 3 years (as long as it's not their Aurora show shiney stuff) and has your biocide + anti-corrosive etc etc in it.

Definitely worth fitting thicker radiators if you can. I've seen a thread with a monster 240 in the front of a DS1. You'll really need to run fans with high static pressure on these though.

Have you considered the fans you'll be getting/have? Those Black Ice radiators need fans with serious pressure to perform due to the fin spacing. If you have high pressure fans but want to run them at a more slow speed, the EK XT or XTX rads would be better.

you'll need to give some thought as to how the pipes would be routed around your case. the thread above will give you some idea, although the person's gone a bit further and used extenders.

How does that look? I'll have a look at fans at a later date. do a bit of research on them (i have 2 SP120s atm and 4 Bitfenix Spectra Pros that will do for now)
 
Sorry to revive an old thread but I wanted to refresh this build as I didn't ever get round to buying the parts apart from the gfx card waterblock...

So if you could be so kind as to advice on what would be good to buy (first time for me as well) I would be grateful !
