Watercooling

Hi all,

We have just connected up my friends system to a external watercooling system - ThermalTake Mini Symphony

And now wish to add a GPU cooling block to it. The card in question is a Leadtek PX6800GT TDH (PCI-E) which has an large copper block all over it, if I were to remove the block and fit the recommended vga block (CL-W0038 Aquarius) how would the rest of the card (and the ram) be cooled or is it ok without once the blocks on? I think not but does that mean I just need ramsinks or something stronger.

I know it probably isn't the best block out there but it isn't an extreme system and I want to keep it simple for someone else to manage (he fitted the first part himself )

Well really ram doesn't normally need too much cooling, so I'd say it'd be fine with just the chip block. It is possible to get chip + fan blocks but they cost a fair amount, and I'm not so sure it's worth it. You can also get watercooling parts for the ram sections on your vga card but they cost a lot and are fiddly.

Zalman ZM-RHS1 Silent VGA RAM Heatsink Kit (HS-014-ZA) (one up from bottom) is your best bet. I have an aircooled graphics card and it comes with these sinks.

Im not sure of the cooling power of that all-in-one water cooler but it doenst look that powerful...

If its silence you are after you could just go for a third party aircooler that will cool the whole card (GPU/RAM) and still remain pretty silent... the Actic Cooling range are really good.

Uses a triple 120mm rad (allbeit condenser rad, but heyho).

Should be able to cope fine with whatever you throw at it (other than highend pelts).

My bad. I had seen the 800mm and 'mini' and thought it was 8cm high.
