Has anybody got experience of the Olympus Tg 610 or 810 or similar? I'm looking for a waterproof camera to take on holiday and want something to use in and around the pool or Beach and as a general P&S camera as well. Looked at the canon ixus 115/220 Hs with a case but that makes them pretty bulky. Also want video but not bothered if it's 720p.

Work gave me an Olympus waterproof camera, not sure of the model but looks similar to the 610/810. It's awful, slow and clunky to use with bad image quality. I'd lean towards Canon for compacts. This might help http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterproofgroup/

I don't think the GoPro cameras are suitable for this thread as they're designed as helmet-cam videos as far as I can tell.

Thanks, I looked at the dpreview and most of the usual suspect websites and comparisons like that one are from, in most cases, 1 or 2 models ago. I tried the Xp30 Fuji at the weekend and you could go away and have lunch while it decided to focus where the Olympus seemed to be ok. I'm used to a Sony A55 and Samsung NX10 DSLR which are very fast focusing and don't expect the P&S to be in the same league as them, but want something half decent.

I've had a TZ3 before and liked that but the waterproof case for it is more than a TZ20 and the bulk they add just sort of defeats the whole P&S approach.

Pentax Optio WG-1 may fit the bill - waterproof to 10m without a case so will probably work out a lot cheaper than the Olympus combo you mentioned: depends how deep you'll be going :p

The Olympus is a Waterproof camera out the box either to 5m or 10m depending on the model so same principle as the WG-1. The canon is a combo of case and camera and works out at about £200 all in for about 3m depth.
