WB can be fixed pretty well in post but like you say an external flash is a massive plus point even for snorkling let alone diving.
 
I disagree. You can't get good results in post without the basic colour info, even in raw.

Any compact with manual WB can get great pics down to 20 meters. After that you need your own light source.

I'm diving a G12 and canon housing this year. Last year (the Egypt pic) was from a 5 year old fuji fd31. Strobe is a very old 15th hand ikelite ds50 with a manual dial EV setup (basicly takes .5 stops off the strength every click) .


i love the G12 for it's full manual setings and programable buttons but miss the fuji (the GF dropped it into a next of leaf cutter ants in the amazon and it never focused right after that!)
