Waterproof jacket recommendations

but there is precisely zero reason why you would ever want to zip a fleece inside,just have the fleece separate . Better yet, dump the cheap fleece and get some quality down for insulation

You say that but my M65 has served me well, though if I'm doing stuff like watching a football match in sub-zero temperatures I'll unzip the fleece and wear it under my winter parka instead.

yes I'd go paclite/soft have a scoeffel one for years - you wouldn't do multi-day in it since its less resistant to rucsac straps,
but otherwise much ligther and packable versus 3 layer hard shell, also for business trips in suitcase, discretely throwing in back of car, skiing;
just make sure you oversize if for fitting over a fleece/300polartec, unfortunately can make it a bit big for cycle commuting though.

eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/Berghaus-Paclite-Gore-Tex-Waterproof-Jacket/dp/B01MRC5EMZ

went for bright red somewhat serendipitous for cycling visibility, smock/pull-over makes it a bit more flexible for skiing.

Thanks for all the replies all. Will try and pop down to a local shop and try a few out.

Not really keen on the look of the Berghaus Cornice, but will see how it fits and feels.

Never heard of Mountain Equipment before, but I like the look of their range and they seem to have quite a few options in budget and get good reviews.
