Watership Down would be rated PG nowadays

Getting disturbed by Watership Down was practically a rite of passage for 80's kids. Extreme violence for a U.

Got me thinking about other violent kids cartoons of that era, I remember hippos beating the crap out of sharks then getting killed. Seems Hugo the Hippo from 1975 is much as I renembered it watching it in the 80s on TV. Plenty of oddball cartoons around that time that kids could get exposed to, including drug taking cartoon cat adult catoons though the name escapes me.

Did anyone ever have that weird ‘Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night’ VHS?

This scene scared the crap out of me. Nightmare fuel!

Kicks off from about 2 mins in.

Nitefly is right, it's Fritz the Cat, I was getting it mixed up with Felix the Cat. Often would be lumped in the kids section at video rental places despite being extremely unsuitable for them.

I'd never heard of or seen watership down! Strange. Looks Brutal!
It's probably the most famously 'emotionally impactful' kids film, at least for my generation (Xennials). It is/was frequently referred to as being potentially too sad, I actually forgot what happened in it so I only really know it by reputation now.
