wayne rooney

Absolute quality & such confidence not only to go for that shot but the follow up strike as well

Definately a star of the future if he can keep & improve on that form. I wonder how many full games he will get.

yeah there keeping him under wraps he's not allowed to do tv or even radio interviews for fear of it going to his head... which is good coz sometimes players get to big for there boots and forget where they have came from... everton are doing there best to keep him there for life. At such a young age though he has to watch out for injury coz at this stage it could ruin his career

Absolute quality finish from the lad, but I've known for about a year how good he would be. I said to the missus then that I should but a bet on that he'd be in the 2006 World Cup squad, and while any thoughts of England are premature, people in the game are already predicting he will beat Owen's record of being England's youngest ever player.

He has all the tools to be a world class striker as well. He knows exactly where the goal is, and knows how to put the ball there, can score with either foot and his head, can shoot from outside the box (as proven), can take people on (like at Old Trafford), is fast (sped away from Giggs), and is strong and very hard to knock off the ball. He's also not afraid to get stuck in (already got a few yellow's this year), and has got a kind of arrogance (the good kind) that all strikers have, that they know they can score at any time.

I do believe Moyes is doing an excellent job with him, much better than Walter Smith would have done. Having seen Fowler and Owen come through the Liverpool ranks, people are seeing Rooney as an answer to them, and Moyes is doing a great job of shielding him from all the hype and keeping his head on the ground. Here's hoping he develops as well as he can, him and Owen could be a lethal partnetship and a good way to get Heskey out the team :D

Thats one thing I wasn't sure of (his pace) - but if he gave Giggs a run, then he can't be bad. Lets hope he has more luck than Owen injury wise.

I'm not sure how he'd do against Giggs in a flat sprint, but at Old Trafford Rooney skipped past Scholes, and the ball was about 5 yards ahead of him. Giggs was an obvious favourite for the ball (even according to Andy Gray), but Rooney went past him and muscles him off the ball, before almost scoring what would have been one of the goals of the season.

No idea about him injury wise though, his body is still developing so it may be something that will show itself in time rather than right away.

Care to back up that rather stupid remark with some kind of comment or factual information?
Stupid? how many times has the next 'wonderkid' either disappeared from radar, taken an injury and ended up in division 3 or just plain not fulfilled his 'potential'. Probably thousands. Only Michael Owen off hand has done well from a very young age in recent years, even then he hasn't really hit the heights he was expected - or hyped up - to acheive.

Rooney is good but let's face it he's only played a few games, he may be mixing it well in the Premiership at the moment but come the end of the season or the end of next I doubt he'll look sooo great.

anyone see the chip he nearly scored, seaman would have (not for the first time :p) look pretty silly. Hes going to be a fantastic player though. I hope Joe Cole and Carrick wont be sold :(

That depends on how he's handled. If it's the same way as Giggs was brought through by Alex Ferguson, which Moyes seems to be doing, then he can only improve. David Moyes knows the potential he's got in Wayne Rooney, and I don't think he'll try to rush for the exact same reasons you stated.

Thanks to Andy Townsend we all know why this was possible however...he has a large bum...apparently an essential quality for a foward to have...ummm yeah... :p

Looks like he's going to sign a new deal...

I've known that for a while, the contract had been agreed in the close season I believe, but he obviously can't sign until Thursday (17th birthday).

Of course, there are thousands of young hopefuls who never make the grade. But I'd like you to name me five who've made their Premiership debut at 16 and scored a wonderful goal like Wayne did on Saturday.

He has shown in every game he's played that he's very dangerous at this level. He does attempt a few silly shots now and then, but he's young and will make mistakes. However, the only thing I can see that will stop him from reaching superstar status is an injury, because he has the natural ability to succeed.
