Ways to avoid jetlag on 9 hour flight?

Why no sleep or drinking? In my experience these are the only things that help me with jetlag!

The key is sleeping at the right time to adjust your body clock to destination time so if your landing in the morning destination time get on the plane as tired as possible and sleep as long as possible and the opposite for an evening landing! Booze is never a good idea but I guess if it is the only way you can sleep on a flight it is the only option!

Wear sunglasses for a couple of days before you leave to confuse your body clock then when you get there get as much sun shine as possible as it really helps adjust your body clock.

Despite what is said about going east is worse then going west I personally find the opposite.

Flying to Japan (~11 1/2 hours) I fly in the evening which gets me there late afternoon their time with time difference and stay awake the whole time. I'm normally at my hotel and showered by 5-6pm. Then go out and get something to eat, go to a couple of shops and put money on my Suica card and return to the hotel by 9pm which time I'm really knackered so by the time I get to go to sleep about an hour later I can sleep through and am then normally fine.

Coming back is similar (except lunch time flight which gets me into the UK late afternoon and longer trip home from Heathrow). But I'm normally totally screwed for at least a week afterwards.
