Ok I got most of my gear today for my new build:

LG Blueray RW & HD DVD ROM
Some multi card reader floppy drive
Arctic freezer 7 pro
Corsair HX 620W modular psu
2gb corsair ddr3 @1333mhz (will change when prices drop)
X2 500GB WD Sata HDD (Raid 0)
Q6600
Coolermaster Cosmos 1000

I still have to wait on:
ASUS P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi-APn AiLifestyle (not yet delivered - out of stock should be next week)
x2 3870X2 (Not yet released)

I'm ordering the watercooling parts when I order the gpu's

can anyone estimate what sort of clock I should be aiming for at watercool? I wish to cool cpu and gpu's, so I'll need to buy 1 cpu and 2 gpu parts, but what other sections should I look at cooling to get extra performance?

So far Im looking at:

x2 XSPC 3/8" High Flexibility PVC Tubing - 1m £1.99 (£2.34) £3.98 (£4.68)

Alphacool Cape Coolplex Pro 50 Reservoir £26.99 (£31.71)

Laing DDC 1-T Pro 10W 12 VDC Pump £42.99 (£50.51)

Thermochill PA120.2 120mm Double Radiator £46.99 (£55.21)

x2 Feser One UV Reactive Coolant 1 Litre (Black/Blue) £6.99 (£8.21) £13.98 (£16.42)

x2 XSPC Tubing Clip For 3/8" Hose £0.49 (£0.58) £0.98 (£1.16)

x3 EK 3/8" Hose fitting £1.99 (£2.34) £5.97 (£7.02)

Thermochill 3/8"BSP to 3/8" Barb £1.99 (£2.34)

D-Tek Fuzion Universal CPU Block (AMD Socket A/754/939/AM2, Intel 478/LGA775/423/771/603/604) £35.99 (£42.29)

Sub Total : £179.86
Shipping : £8.95
VAT: £33.04
Total : £221.85

Question time :)
am I missing any parts?
do I need 2 loops?
will I get much of a performance increase cooling northbridge + ram?

all advice appreciated

ps - cosmos 1000 is too big for my desk so I gotta get a new one :)

Hi Stevennazari,

I've only just started researching water cooling but from looking at the equipment you may be getting it looks good to me, apart from a few things.

EK HD 3870 GPU Water Block - These look good apart from the fact they are acrylic tops. Now I've read on more than one occasion that you should stay away from water blocks that have acrylic tops as over a period of time the screws in them can split it and cause leaks. Try looking at an equivilent without acrylic.

Alphacool NexXxos Xtreme II Rev2 Double Radiator - If you can get a case to accomdate it I'd go for the the Thermochill PA120.3 120mm Triple Radiator with Yate Loon fans, as I've read so many good reviews on it.

Tubing - Masterkleer is suppose to be superb, especially if you attach Helix Coils to it.

Reservoir - I'm looking at the Alphacool Special Edition UV Plexi Single 5.25" Reservoir just so I can put it in a bay.

As for the rest of it, it looks good mate.

If you want a chat about it email me at [email protected]

Alphacool NexXxos Xtreme II Rev2 Double Radiator £24.99 (£29.36)

Fluid XP+ EXTreme (Phantom Black) £21.99 (£25.84)

If budget is tight then i would drop the Fluid XP and use the £25.84 to get a different rad :

Thermochill PA120.2 120mm Double Radiator - £55.21

Distilled Water @ 75p / Litre - (Morrisons/Tesco/Local Hardware) is fine to use.
Biocide/Additive @ £3.00 ( Google )
Dye @ £4 ( Google )

Pump I would recommend going for the 18w variant, especially as you plan to have quite a few blocks. You'll get approx. 50% more flow.

3870 blocks I can't see these fitting on an X2, unless you mean to buy the (presumably planned) blocks for X2 cards?

Radiator I hear nothing but good things about the PA series. I only here mediochre things about the Alphacool rads, esepcially that they are pretty restrictive.

Totally agree.

Surely keeping the fluid he's chosen will be better for piece of mind knowing it won't do any damage if a leak does occur. Plus, if he's spending this much in the first place, then the additional cost for coolant is nothing.

I did mention budget.

If its going to leak , then it hasn't been fitted and leak tested properly.

The important parts are the pump , rad, fans and block for cooling.

£26 for a bottle of "glorified " distilled water and dye is silly.

The average loop is ~ 1 litre , allow an amount for spillage/waste and you will need 2 bottles = £52 - The price of a good Radiator ( Pump , Block ).

Remember , the hardware does the cooling - the fluid just transfers the heat.

x2 Alphacool 8mm Polyurethane Tubing (Transparent) - 1m £1.29 (£1.52) £2.58 (£3.04)

Go for atleast 10/8mm tubing, perferably 3/8". And you'll probably be needing some barbs too.

budget is 400 so I should be ok to get better, but I thought those would be fine.

Im putting the rad in the bottom and think I can only fit a double, but will that be enough? if its not I will get a tripple and put it on top

Like Jimbo Mahoney said a standard 3870 block will not fit on a 3870x2. The 3870x2 is a 2 GPU card. You will need to wait for a specially designed block for them to come out.

I take your point Mark. I was just referring to the "Piece of Mind" state of things that's all. Which, in my opinion, is worth paying for.

Why are you buying the Fluid XP stuff... Its so expensive.
Take a look at the Fesser1 coolant, very good stuff, once again non-conductive, comes in various colours with UV reactive additives. £8 a bottle rather than £25.

how many tube clips and barbs do I need to get???

2 Barbs for each of pump, res, rad, blocks

Check if they are included in the individual items

Same amount + couple of extra with the hose clamps

And if you are looking at adding Sli watercooling , later :

" Jimbo Mahoney - I really would get the 18W pump. "

^ Agree
