I have just installed a new 150gb Raptor and have the following problem-

When the PC is shut down and left for a while and restarted it take a long time (4 mins) to get past the windows XP loading bar. After that all is fine and a restart is fine!

Is there any reported or known problems for this cold boot issue?

Well I just switched of the PC for ten minutes and came back and it worked fine!

I am starting to think this could be a heat issue where by when the drive is stone cold it is not spinning up properly!....Or am I talking out my backside?

Well after much investigation these are the facts -

Clean installation of XP - works fine until start from cold and then it takes 5 minutes to get to the desktop!
Cloned image to other SATA drive and that works OK
If I unplug the drive and plug it back in (in other words drop power) takes 5 minutes to load windows.
If I then just restart (power not dropped) or hybernate/standby -no problem!

I did some more testing and discovered that if the drive is on its side the problem is more itermitant and not quite so bad! -this must be some speed or low spin issue!

My 74 gb Raptor is very quick to boot all the time.
