WD 150GB Raptor!

heloo all

anyone got the new raptor, whats it like in tems of sound and performance?

sound

- seeking
- idle

performace

- game loading
- win loading
- decompressing 2-4 rar files.

is there anyway you can quieten the raptor?

i have the antec sonata 2 if that helps

idle - inaudible above akasa amber fan

seek - loud, can hear it through the floor below. cant really describe it..kinda like chattering as it moves around.

game loading - warcraft 3 - loads maps about 5 secs faster than my 7200rpm sata drive

oblivion - loads maps 2-3 secs faster than 7200 drive..i think this is mainly processor limitations though rather than hd.

win loading - depends how much stuff you have installed ;P slightly faster than a 7200 drive imo but not really noticable once you got a lot installed

decompressing rars - depends on the size - a 350meg xvid in about 13 secs

I find mine quieter than the standard 160GB WD drive that it replaced. I cant really hear it above the sound of the case fans, but I suppose it depends on how loud your pc is anyway.

just bung them in a silentmaxx enclosure and that eliminates almost all of the seek noise.
