Hi, I have a WD1600 Serial ATA HDrive.
The actual hd works well and I know its only 160gb but it has some important info needed on it, the place where the sata lead attaches is broken so I took off the circuit board and I am wondering if I would be able to get another of the same to put in its place.
Also would it help if I put a wanted thread asking for one, any help appreciated thank you.;)

Replacing the circuit board is a possibility but it's not a guaranteed fix. You'll need to get as near as possible to an identical one (right down to firmware revision) to have much chance of reviving the original drive.

;)Cheers for the reply looks like I will keep it just incase 1 comes up. Thanks..

As said, replacing the circuit board is sometimes possible but don't hold out too much hope. Worth a try though if you can find the same drive.

Depending on which bit of the SATA port is broken though, you should be able to make it work again without changing the circuit board. If it's the connector itself, steal the connector from another drive and wire it into the 160gb circuit board; if it's the connection to the circuit board that's broken, it might be a bit more tricky though.

Good luck.
