I seem to have issues with my WD 200GB 2000JS SATA-II.

Only had it 3 1/2 months (from here) and all seemed fine until the other day...

(Bear in mind, it's my media drive so it just holds music, images & work, no applicatgions, games or OS, so it's used very little.)

The first thing I noticed was in the Hardware Manager. Suddenly the drive was no longer recognised as a WD 200GB 2000JS SATA-II, but as a "Generic Hard Drive"... odd I thought as my Raptor displayed fine and they're both on the same SATA controller (Nv4)

I then tried a disk check from Windows... 3 hours passed, then finally, "Test could not be completed" appeared....

Now I started to get worried...

Downloaded the diagnostic tools from WD. Tried to run a diagnostic on the drive, only to be met with...

"Task Cannot be completed"

The report showed:

S.M.A.R.T Failed
Error Zone Reporting = 26 (red)

Is my HDD on it's way out already?
Would a full format fix it?

I've already contacted WD directly about an RMA and it's been accepted, but a bit nervous about having to send it over to Germany, especially with the reputation couriers have and the strict rules applied by WD about damaged packaging.

Would OCuK just exchange it if I asked for a replacement concidering I've only had it since October last year and WD have already said yes to an RMA?

Not impressed tbh.

I doubt it but have you asked them?
