has anyone used this drive before? i see it has been rated for a long mtbf and at a 100% 24/7 duty cycle. sounds to me like its a very reliable drive.

any thoughts? im planning on getting one to replace my seagate 250 gig drive and was also wondering if there would be any speed increase?

Ignore anyone who says server only because of TLER - the Raptor 150 (standard) has TLER and no-one moans ;).

Have a look Here

Hmm the comment about HTER and not catching all read/write errors but allowing the raid controller to correct it is odd.

A failure would cause a raid5 drive rebuild (ie the drive would be marked as failed), if this occurs with more than one - kiss good by to the whole array.

edit: there are posts in the forum discussions - seems that the HTER doesn't cause issues in high load situations.

I'd be interested in these if they can take a beating with hit I/O and long duty cycles of over 24 hrs :D
I stopped using my RAID0 raptors and Maxtors because I was worried about the impact it may have... roll on cheap ramdiscs...

edit 2: If I have a drive in in a raid array that has demonstrated faulty sectors (beyond the automatic drive mapping itself) - like hell is it going to be allowed to remain in the raid array!
