I'm currently using 2x250Gb Samsung Spinpoints for my storage, but I need more, so i'm looking to replace them with 2x500Gb WD 5000KS drives.

The reviews seem to think they're just as silent as the Samsungs, but the extra capacity over the 400Gb Samsungs is a bonus.

I guess there aren't many other options.

Seagate ST3500630AS are pretty good and also fairly quiet. We also have the WD5000YS for very little extra than the KS but it depends on how long you have the drive on for per day.

I only use them for storage, but they will be "on" for most of the day. So does that make a difference?

Why not just buy another drive or two if you're running out of space? Why replace two 250GB with two 500GB's?

Because I'd rather have 2x500Gb drives, than 4x250Gb. The noise of 4 drives will be noticeable over 2.

I currently have an older 250Gb SATA for my Windows drive, plus 2x250Gb Spinpoints. What I'm going to do is switch one of the Spinpoints to Windows duty, then sell the old SATA drive and the other Spinpoint.

If I go to System drive + 4xSpinpoints, then what do I do when I need more space? I'll have no drive slots left! :p
