I've got a 500GB WD Caviar Blue AAKS drive that I haven't used for about a month. I plugged it in the other day and found that it spins up but then the PC hangs when trying to detect it. Just wondering if this is a common fault and whether the "freezer trick" might help at all?

I've requested an advance RMA from Western Digital for this. I was a bit shocked to see the amount they charge on your credit card until they get the defective drive back - it was about $210

Seems excessive considering they actually cost about $65 now!
