- they're generally considered to be *slightly* faster and *slightly* quieter than the 7200.10 but it's probably fairly subjective and both are excellent drives.

There's nothing out there to suggest that the AAKS / AAJS series of drives are using perpendicular recording - WD's first perpendicular press release is after the AAKS announcement.
Perpendicular recording is not a magic bullet which suddenly makes a drive faster it's increasing the data density on the platters which provides the speed boost. As WD have shown it's possible to still get good densities without PMR however it's likely that the AAKS will be the last non PMR performance drive.
