I recently added a HDD to provide addnl storage for photos leaving my SSD as the main boot drive.

Is there a way to shut down the HDD when not in use, ie most of the time, as the noise levels have dramatically increased (albeit from virtually silent)?

The desktop screen is displaying random photos from the HDD as wallpaper, if I stop this will the HDD stop spinning (only just thought of this and am not in front of my PC at the moment)?

Any advice much appreciated

Press the start button, type power options and press enter. On whatever power plan you have selected, press change plan settings and then change advanced power settings. Go to the hard disk section and set it to whatever you want.
