WD Black platter sizes

Am I correct in thinking that only the 2TB model comes with 500GB platters and the 1TB model uses 334GB platters?

If so, does anyone know if WD has any plans to release a 1TB model with 500GB platters?

Correct.

Unfortunately I don't know the answer to the latter part. Hopefully soon, there's no good reason not too. WD have been using 500Gb platters for a while now!

I'm interested in a WD Black to replace my old Seagate 7200.11 as my main drive.

It would be nice to see 1TB and 1.5TB WD Blacks with 500GB platters tbh. They would benefit from lower power usage and increased read speed. The Blacks already have a low random access time, so adding those bigger platters would only server to make them better

I'd just go for the 7200.12 Barracudas, access time differences are negligible.
