Hi all,
I've recently purchased a WD blue 4tb internal drive and found that my machine will only see 1.6tb.
My machine is pretty old to say the least
It is an Acer aspire e700 desktop, the mobo is an fg965m (intel with Intel drivers).
Bios is dated 2007. I have windows 7 64bit ultimate. The machine recognises 2tb without issue. It also recognises 4tb external via USB without issue.
However 4tb internal only shows up as 1.6tb.
I have tried using diskpart and cleaning and setting the disk to gpt but to no avail.
I have tried updating the drivers and again, no joy. I have tried downloading the Intel rapid storage drivers/software but when I do, the machine then hangs on the windows is starting screen so that doesn't work either.
I'm beginning to think my chipset is the limitation, the USB drivers are more easily updated, but I'm guessing intel won't have released an update that will work with my motherboard/chipset allowing the 4tb drive to work internally with my motherboard.
Anyone any ideas on what I could do? External hard drive enclosure and just use the drive for long term backup? Thanks in advance
