I just recently got a Western Digital MyBook 500GB Ext hdd that has a esata port. Can anybody tell me how to get hold of the cable in the UK? I have had a search in the threads but could not find any info. thanks

Welcome! (And claimed - if anybody still does this ;)).

I think if your motherboard supports e-SATA then you'll get a bracket with the appropriate port for allowing the connectivity of exterinal devices.

I dont think he means that.

I think he means the issue with the ESATA not working on the WD My Book (due to cable not connecting), if he is, we can sort that no probs.

sorry should have made myself clear. I wanted to know where I can get the Esata cable as it is not supplied with the drive only the usb one. sorry for the confusion.

i had bought an akasa esata cable from here months ago but when i couldnt get the drive working on it i just gave up. i've just now trimmed the cable and it works a treat. since noticed transferring big files makes a big difference in speed.

The details and diagrams on how to trim the eSATA Cable in this thread have just saved me from ordering another eSATA Cable as i thought that the one i got was wrong, trimmed it and now it works with my WD 500GB Drive :)

Thanks !

I have trimmed the cable and the bios detects the drive but windows does not any hints on this. Is it possible that it is a bios setting I have missed. The motherboard I have is Asus P5B Deluxe. TIA.

Have you installed any Drivers for Windows, I think its a JMicron Sata Controler.

JMicron JMB36X RAID Controller Driver (Grab whatever your OS is).

I did download the latest driver from Asus but that did not help. I changed the bios setting from IDE to SATA and then I got a error in device manager for an IDE controller it was then that I installed the driver and thought great it might now work but no luck.

Edit: Got it working now I installed the drivers from the motherboard CD and now works fine. thanks for the help. I should have tried the cd in the first place. LOL
