WD external hdd help

I have a wd my passport 160gig drive. I wanted to use it with big files but it would due to the file format it was formatted in. I tried to reformat it using the disk management options in windows and it fails. I now have a drive that i can use. Any ideas?

Im assuming here your drive is formatted as FAT32 and you want to format it as NTFS? You should be able to do this from within disk management or by right clicking on the drive icon and selecting format from there. Try downloading the lifeguard tools from Western Digital and using that to format the drive.... http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?level1=2&lang=en

Yep tried all of those but no luck. I think i fubared the drive when i tried the formatted ages ago.

There should be a diagnostic utility on the Western digital downloads page I linked you to.. Run that and see if it flags the drive as being faulty. If so then RMA it.

Download EASUS - a free partitioning program - that should do the trick. Google is your friend here
