I have recently decided to sort out my duff 150gig Raptor that I have in a draw so I went through WD RMA procedure but it advises that I check the drive usind there data lifegaurd tool , but on launch it crashs my system, I get a blue screen with writing on but it all shuts down before I can read it.
So I was wondering if anyone elde has had this and can advise me.

This is my system if it helps-

QX6850
4GB Teem Xtreem Ram
EVGA 8800 Ultra
EVGA nForce 680i SLi
2x 150GB rators (working order)
Enermax Galaxy 850w
OS -XP 32bit

Mine was duff when new last week from OCUK but to fix it I did the following:

1: Filled the drive with 0's.

2: Low level format x 2.

Now it works fine.

To save time when I got it I just did a quick format but this messed it up a little and the lifeguard tools reported it was dying but after formating the bad block its worked perfectly for a week now.

Did a bit of research and apparently all HD's have bad blocks on them so no big deal if you just to a low level 0 fill and or full format.

Might be worth a go.

I had a faulty WD a few months back, I did the low level format with the WD diagnostics tool and it was fine for a few days before the problems appeared again.

RMA it if you can notice the faults. But be prepared to wait for upto 3 weeks or longer unless you go for the advance RMA.
