WD recertified RMA?

Just had a replacement drive returned by WD after last one died. It labeled as a recertified drive. It also has a legacy molex power connector as well as the standard sata power.

A couple of questions:

How old it it likely to be given it has both power connectors?

Does Recertified mean refurbished, if so how reliable is it likely to be?

I thought these drives still stated the original manufacture date and the warranty will continue till the end of the original drive.

Recertified can mean either the drive was returned, not broken and tested ok for re-use. Or it was broken on return, fixed and tested ok for re-use.

I would imagine the reliability should be the same as a brand new one. Also I can't remember purchasing a drive in the last 18 months with both power connections.

I would trust it as much as a new drive, WD's RMA service is fantastic. Chances are the PCB was the issue on that drive and they replaced it hence both connectors?

WD wouldn't send out a drive if they knew it wasn't upto standard.
I wouldn't be worried, IF it went wrong just RMA it back to them, for replacement.

Thanks for the replies. I just checked the warranty and it expires on the 23/7/10 which is the same date as the one I returned.

I'll bite the bullet and give it a run.
