WD Red or Green for Backup & Streaming?

In need of some new drives so was thinking of upgrading to SATA3 drives. WD Drives come out the best interms of acoustics which is why I chose them.

The Drive will be used mainly to backup stuff as-well house TV Shows and Music which will be streamed to my PlayStations and chromecast.

Capacity is 2Tb

Which will be better? the Green or the Red?

SATA 6Gb/s 2TB Green from that choice as Red is for Raid/NAS use primary and cost more.

Is the green going to be as fast as the Red?
Im sure i read it goes into a power save state at times which affects the times..?!

Green can be PIA going to sleep all the time and the WD App to control it does not work for my Ext My Book (Green) but may work on a non Ext Green HDD.

Read the specs for each model/size to see the speeds.

My advice would be to go for the Red drives as they offer a longer warranty and are designed for prolonged usage.

Good choice!

I do not understand why Green drives still get recommended. The Red's are only between £10-£20 more expensive have a a 3 years waranty instead of 2 year one and have 24/7 support and designed for always on usage!
