WD release NEW **WDTV LIVE PLAYER**

Cheeky I know RB but any chance you could vid the interface in action for me :)? Also, if you've got two of those, why are you after a htpc?

Neither can see my WHS 2011 machine .

I am currently using a HTPC and my AC Ryan HD2 and the AC Ryan is only working as I can type in a server address as it also cannot browse to my WHS.

The strange thing is that I had them all working together after a few issues which a Windows patch seemed to fix but then after rebuilding the WHS I do not seem to be able to browse the network for it on any of my media players although Windows machines are fine.

The reason for the HTPC was more for the coverart and funky stuff I can add with XBMC or the like although getting them set-up correctly is a major challenge in its own right. Just didn't fancy having to hack the firmware on the WD Live TV and anyway, now I can play MineCraft on my 100" projector screen (the blocks are like.... so big man :D) although that is just for the kids of course ;).

The only real problem with the media players is that you are locked in to their way of doing things unless you wish to hack the firmware. Using the HTPC opens up the possibilities but also requires more time and has more pitfalls which I seem to be finding with unnerving accuracy :).

Will try to take a vid for you but wont be until the weekend as we have an exchange student staying at the moment so what with our 3 kids as well it is pretty much a mad house :).

Ah, bit of a deal breaker. No worries on the vid if it turns out to be trouble, just interested a bit, though I think I'd end up sticking with my WHSv1 xbmc install as its running really nicely now, albeit with a few skin issues.

RB, have you tried any 3rd party streaming products? I've recently installed Mezzmo and it seems quite good so far. As before i was having quite a few problems getting various devices to see my WHS2011 server

will wait until we get some reviews of this little box. I have the old WDTV not the live version and it still plays anything I test with it. The only thing that annoys me is the fact that it doesnt have DTS downsampling and I have no way to passthru that to my TV so I have to downsample the files before I play them so I am looking at one of these. Unless anyone knows anyway to pass thru the audio on the older ones?

Just got mine and loving it so far its my first WD media player and cant fault it with what ive tried.

Got my wifi sorted and currently streaming from my laptop.

Due tomorrow guys :)

3 questions:

1: Is it passively cooled? If not, does it run silent?
2: Does it have gigabit ethernet?
3: Does it play high bit rate .mkv files with no issues?

I think the answer to all three is yes.
