WD SATA2 250GB Issue

Hi,
I have a puzzling issue I'm hoping someone can help with please!!
System:
Gigabyte K8N51PVM9-RH M/B
Athlon64 3400+ CPU
1GB PC3200 RAM
DVD-RW & Media Drive
& the problem WD 250GB SATA2 HD.
Loading Windows is fine, but then when I re-boot periodically the screen goes BLANK between the POST screen and the option to enter the BIOS or the loading of Windows. eg.If I hit 'DEL' to enter BIOS, it then goes Blank and nothing happens and I have to reset, then it might do the same again or in fact it might proceed to load Windows in.
This is getting to be a bit of a pain as I have never come acroos this particular problem before. I have tried disconnecting the SATA2 drive and installing the OS on an 200GB IDE drive and there doesn't appear to be a problem as I re-booted several times and it did not do it once.
Is there a fault with the drive or am I missing something?
Please help ASAP.

WD drives have a jumper block on the back which can be used to set the drive to SATA-I rather than SATA-II, it might be worth trying this and seeing if it makes a difference. You won't lose any performance as a result, there's plenty of bandwidth headroom with SATA-I for a single drive.
