Just as a comment guys, the latest pre-release beta firmware has just been updated a few days ago. Some people are reporting HDMI sync issues and having to revert, although a couple have commented that factory resetting fixed the issue. Might be worthwhile updating if you're in a similar boat to me and stuck on the original firmware, because of audio sync issues.
- Iamtheoneneo - if you read this you'll see what I mean about the audio sync issues being pretty widespread/acknowledged. The Live has been out for over a year and here's a quote from the recent pre-release .35's (we're on .38 now which aims to reduce some of the HDMI sync issues) release notes:
•Resolved MP4 problems with seeking and audio stopping.
•Resolved MP4 poor frame-rate and audio out of sync.
•Resolved File Share group name – No longer requires all group names to be the same. (Reset to factory defaults required)
•Resolved various user interface translation issues.
Unfortunately it sounds like they're not completely fixed yet from actual users testing the firmware, but the above pretty much acknowledges that WD KNOWS there are audio sync issues with the box when it comes to certain file types (MKV/MP4). Unfortunately because it's a fairly awkward bug it'd be pretty hard for me to return it.
A few people have commented that this firmware helps, so perhaps the next official release will be a step back towards the audio-sync-issueless original 1.01.00 firmware.
I'm actually considering shifting the WDTV Live box. I use it a lot to play backups, and foreign films, but the subtitle support can be patchy, and it'd be nice to get something slightly more capable terms of sub support. Actual sub format compatibility is really good in basic terms, BUT it can't deal with some of the tagging (when stuff is meant to be hidden from the viewer) nor can it deal with it when there are meant to be multiple lines shown at once very well, PCs play it fine, but WDTV tends to just display the most recent text frame til the end of its lifespan, rather than showing multiple lines, which can cause major issues as lines will effectively be unreadable.
Real shame as if it had more robust sub capabilities, once they fixed the audio sync completely, it'd be perfect for me (well a keyboard on the remote would be nice but hey...)
