WD USB Portable Hard drive

I have this drive for a year and never had any problems until now. Whenever i plug in the usb cable in to my computer, the drive makes some strange sounds (like loud spinning) and doesnt show up in "my computer". The windows however shows that it has found new hardware.

This drive is built to absorb shocks so saying that it has been knocked about seems silly. I have some very important documents on the drive. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

What does Windows reckon it's found?

Is the drive shown in Disk Management?

yes it does but no way to open/access the drive.

What's Disk Management saying about the filesystem on the disk, is it showing as FAT32/NTFS like it should?

well it was saying healthy yesterday but today it doesnt even show up :confused:

Is the WD Drive Test utility able to work on USB drives?
