Hi

Apparently all of these drives will be replaced with 500GB platter versions, with production already started. But the model number stays the same.

Has anyone yet to recieve a new WD10EADS with 500GB platters?

Im just wondering when they will start filtering down the system, as i'm really after one of these for my HTPC.

So the 500GB platter drives should require slightly less power and could be even quieter ? Interesting, I'm unsure just how much more they could improve the existing range that is already perfect for HTPC use.

I have an old style WD10EAVS in my Topfield PVR, runs cooler than the 160GB Samsung it replaced, almost silent too - ie very, very, very quiet, more so than the Samsung - at the moment it's sitting in the open on top of the pvr case and just on occasion, in the still of night, I think I can hear it burble.

Well being 500GB, it'll be quicker, cooler and even quieter than the existing ones. And maybe a little more reliable due to only 2 disks and less heads.
