I'm looking at getting a new 1tb m.2 drive and the above models are around the same price.

My knowledge is limited on interfaces etc but from what I gather the Western Digital drive is PCIe 4.0 whereas the Samsung is PCIe 3.0 - but the latter has slightly faster speeds?

This will be going into the 2nd m.2 slot in my Legion 5P laptop as a games drive - so I'm not even sure how to find out what speed the laptop will take?

I'm leaning towards the Samsung purely because I've had Samsung drives in the past but is there much between these drives for my use??

Just had a quick look and the second m2 on your laptip is pcie3 x4 speed but pcie4 drives are backward compatable. Please check to concur.

I believe the 980 version is dram less which can hinder performance but best to check reviews.

Having done a bit more digging I think you are right - on the Lenovo spec list it shows the m.2 interface as being "Two M2 2280 PCIe Gen 3x4 slots support m.2 PCIe 2242 /2280 SSD"

Ultimately if the WD one is backwards compatible then I might go for that one!

Thanks...
