Hey guys I have just ordered a western Digital Live Media Player model WDBGXT0000NBK. Im just wondering what hard drive I need to get for it. I am going to use a USB stick to plug into it to watch movies on the tv downstairs. But I want to get a hd for it too. Im new to this so a little clueless. Will any hd work? does it matter if it's 2.5/3.5 etc. Would an external hd work?. I will have to buy a hd to put into the media player or an external hd anyhow.

You can add an external hard drive to the WD Live tv. It doesnt matter if it is a 2.5" or 3.5" external drive. as long as it connects via USB 2 it will be ok. As far as I can remember it does not support USB 3.0.

Also with the wireless and Ethernet connections you can also share pictures or movies via a networked PC or storage. It supports DLNA.

Would the WD Live TV Player power a 2.5" drive through the USB port? A 3.5" drive would definitely need an external power supply.

This may help the OP make a decision on what sort of drive to get.

A USB 3.0 drive might be useful for faster file copying to the HDD if the OP's system has it, USB 3.0 is backwards compatible.
