Hi there

EVGA have entered the flagship Gaming Laptop sector with their hugely impressive SC17. I have one myself and was deeply impressed when I enabled SC mode the CPU was running between 3800-3900MHz in benchmarks and games. The GPU had a substantial overclock and even the memory was running at a sweet 3000MHz.

On a laptop this level of performance is mighty impressive and even though the chassis gets toasty after hours of benchmark looping the GPU remained under 75c and showed little to no throttling.

The overall build quality reminds me of the Razor laptop as well with no keyboard flex and what feels like a solid metal chassis. It is a great bit of kit and I can see it selling well especially with EVGA's UK RMA support team also handling after care along with OcUK. :)

The bad news is we only have 10 of these laptops for April/May and they could sell out fast.

I'll be interested if evga enter the 13-15" market.

I like how the trackpad looks centered rather than offset to the left under the spacebar.

That weighs a fair bit, over 3.5 kilos it reminds me of my first laptop I ever owned which I took to University 15 years ago. I would say though for a unibody design that's not a bad price.

Who looking for high performance gaming does it on a heavy, hot £2400 laptop? I can build a desktop with a 4k monitor for £500 less and it will kill this laptop in games.

Maybe someone who travels a lot, or simply wants something portable?

It looks great but very much out of my price range :D

Not exactly the same market! I'd buy this laptop in a flash if I didn't have room for a decent gaming setup.

No idea but we sold 50 units last week of the Asus 980M £2000 laptop, these high-end laptops sell, infact they sell extremely well. :)

a few of our gaming clan use laptops. simply because they don't have the space for desktop PC, shut the lid and stick in a drawer. Its great that PC gamers get a choice from laptops , mini itx up to Full tower setups

Always amuses me when people think they know better than a) the manufacturers who make these things and b) the retailers who choose to sell them.

For a first foray, its pretty good.

I dont think EVGA will ever do a more budget model though, probably just a less capable 15'' for an equally marketed price.

Maybe if they can find the desire from the market, they might at some point.

Hmm, the only fault I find with this laptop is the I/O, not enough USB ports! That and the warranty feels too short to me. Otherwise, it looks a bit too slim for the power... how did they get all that hardware in there?

Personally, I've been burned by the non-upgradability of a laptop (motherboard croaks, it's game over), even dieing within a longer warranty doesn't guarantee everything is good. Though I guess it really depends on the quality of the service, would EVGA still be manufacturing parts for this laptop 2 years from now for replacements? Plus building desktop PCs is so much fun!

I'm interested to see those laptops that support external GPUs, it seems to me the mobile GPUs are a world apart from desktop GPUs in terms of price-to-performance (one could build a PC with 980ti SLI for that price...), but that is kinda to be expected. This model does excel in the portability department, which is the main selling point of laptops in general, I'm still shocked by how thin it looks for a gaming laptop.

I hope folks who buy this are happy with their purchase, but more importantly, fingers crossed the motherboard doesn't fail after 2.5 years. Though this is EVGA, so there is some reliability to be expected. And this is their first laptop after all, they wouldn't want to get started on the wrong foot.

Gibbo,
Do you have any pictures of the actual unit. The pictures/videos show what looks like an american style keyboard (by this I mean a "single row" enter key, with the pipe/backslash above the enter.).

We are also working on that but of course first we review how this model is running and the feedback of the community.
When we enter new markets it mostly happen with super high end products like with our PSU, first we launched the 1500W digital controlled single sleaved cabled OC model... Now we have the full range available from 430W 80+ up to 1600W Titanium. It will probably not happen tomorrow but I am pretty positive this is not the last model you will see :)

I messed with this last week for a few hours.

not being a guy who is into laptops or would ever buy a laptop, I am always interested when something like this lands in the office as I find it a very foreign concept that people game on a mobile device.

out of all of the laptops we sell, this is by far the sleekest/least 'gamer' looking. I am glad that EVGA set themselves apart and basically made a gaming macbook. something stylish with really breathtaking build quality but also capable of playing games.

there is a comment above about 4k desktops.

So I installed the Division and ran it maxed out at 4k without paying any attention to the spec. My standard procedure with PCs is to max a game at the top resolution and see what happens.

This handled it fairly well. It wasnt the best experience I have ever had but dialling back some settings, this does play at max res and it looks bloody good doing it.

Is it better than a desktop? not for my use personally but I understand why people buy laptops.

Would I buy one? If I was in the market for a laptop then I would have this at the top of my list.
