Get the 4-door, it makes life easier
If like the Focus, and the 3dr models hold their value better, then get the 3dr simply as you'll loose a little less money on it.
This is assuming that you don't have the need for 5 doors - i.e. if you only rarely transport more than 2 passengers.

Ignoring Fox's ramblings, i'd say get the 3 door, FAR FAR better looking, and tbh, who cares what its called? I sure as hell wouldn'g introduce myself by saying "i have a vauxhall astra 2.0 sport hatch with abs, sunroof, aircon.... blah blah blah" who gives a stuff what its called.
But get whichever you prefer. All I will say in addition is that my friend bought a 5-door focus for the practicality of getting a few mates in and out on RARE OCCASIONS, but everytime he now sees a 3 door, he wishes he had the 3.

Well, I obviously need a trip to the opticians as I cannot possibly see why the 3 door looks any better than the 5 door? It would be 5 door for me everytime:
Doors are shorter, hence less likey to be opened into adjacent cars, and can be opened further making getting in/out easier.
Front seat passenger doesn't have to get out and back in just to get rear seat passengers in/out
You don't get scuffs on the front seat from people climbing over it.
Putting luggage/shopping etc. on the rear seats is much easier.
The only possible downside I can see from the pics is that the C pillar is a bit wider on the 5 door car.

It's called a door because it's a full height opening that leads (eventualy) into the passenger compartment, unlike the boot lid on a saloon. You could get in/out of it if you needed to (I have to if I park my car halfway down my driveway as I can't open the doors more than a couple of inches).

Your only young once, dont give a rats arse about other people trying to get in and out, just worry about yourself.
If however your like me, i have to help a lot of family members out, i have to get a 5 door sensible car, so i'm bitter and slate anyone with a three door car! (only becuase i am jelly-ouse!)
Three door car looks soo much nicer, the triangular shaped rear windows does wonders for the looks.

As an Astra SXi 3 door owner 
, go for the 3 door! IMO far better looking car than the 5 door. I've had plenty of passengers in the back of mine and never had a complaint about space/leg room or problems with them getting in/out.
