Right, last night I spoke to my insurance company to change the address on my motorcycle insurance.

It was going back to my mums address which was on the policy less than a year ago...

They declined the policy and said the address is no longer covered by them and as of last night they could not insure me!

I have never heard of this, sure I have heard of insurance companies declining due to other factors such as a expensive car in a crap area, but not a total "we don't cover that area anymore"...

Now I am without a bike for a month due to not expecting to pay several hundred quid for insurance this month!

Should I go back to them and argue it?

Possibly just due to a very high volumne of theft maybe? but i wouldnt say they should just refuse to insure normally they would just charge you an arm and a leg more to be covered

A friend of mine (coincidently also in Reading) couldn't get insurance for his flat due to being in an area which is prone to flooding. His flat is on the 2nd floor. :D

If they won't insure, surly the policy is cancelled and you get some money back.

Then just insure with someone else and pay monthly.
I dontsee what arguing would achieve, if it's policy it's policy.

Crikey! where do you live, a Brazilian Favela?

I have never heard of an insurance company not insuring because of the area you live either.

My motorcycle insurance went up over £300 compared to last year, and that is the cheapest quote i can find.
i am fully expecting this time next year not finding any insurance companies that would insure me.

26 years old, 6 years no claims, full license, bike anchored and chained on driveway with an alarm and disk lock, cover etc...

no garage is what the insurance is bending me over on.
no amount of other security measures would drop the premium unless i put it in a tiny plastic shed.

When we moved last November from a flat to a house that is only three streets away I got a £40 refund on my insurance. :D

We had the same problem. ""Sorry, we can't insure you because you are within 300m of a waterway." Yeah, we are within 300m of the Tyne, and if our flat got flooded, all of Newcastle would have a problem as we are on the 3rd floor on top of a hill!

There was a big story here about Tesco, they opened a mega 24 hour store in Liverpool 8 and said they would employ locals while at the same time refusing all motor insurance for the area.

Do you live in an area with a particularly high level of car related personal injury claims.
