We should be grateful for full mouse support and more

I don't think those should be considered 'extra'. If I was playing a PC game that didn't provide all of those,*cough* Crysis 2, I would be rather dissapointed.

Why should we be grateful for mouse support? If we had to just use the keyboard it would be terrible :p

Nobody would be expected to own a 360 controller for gaming on their PC, so developers are forced to put mouse control in no matter what.

There's a fair amount of talk of 'extras' on the PC version, and yea ok there's an effort on the part of developers to have that in there, but that's not so much a case of doing something because they want to make it 'better for some, but not for others', but rather adjusting to the control interface and the game control experience which it allows for. This difference is often reflected in visual interface.

One game that did this incredibly well was Mass Effect 2. Comparing the PC to Xbox 360 versions, there were certainly differences in things like minigames, menu, interface control etc. but most importantly the PC version actually *felt* entirely like it was developed with K+M in mind, whereas the 360 version felt like it was developed with a 360 controller in mind.

It's effort, yes, and if developers don't want to take those steps for one platform then they'll end up with an inferior product. But frankly that's their problem if the response to their game isnt as good as it could have been.

“But one thing specific to the PC version that we think is quite cool are some features we have been working on with AMD. I can’t talk about these right now, but a video and details will be released on Thursday.”

Any guesses what this might be? I imagine it will be something very mundane/obvious/old like Eyefininity/3D support, or something along those lines.

After giving Dead Space a go 18 months after i bought it...

Urgh. How is that game even playable on consoles? The controls are ****ing awful and the mouse feels crap. The method they used for the UI with its hologram was great in theory, utterly dreadful in practice, it might work on a console but having to change to the arrow keys to get around it is pathetic.

Whoever wrote the article is an idiot. Focusing on standards for pc as something as news worthy isnt a great article considering a pc game has these as standard. Ports dont sometimes so i guess thats nice of them to get it done but it should be standard not tacked on which sounds like it was last minuite added on as they say late in development they got another dev studio to fix the console game up for pc. So for all we know this other dev (never heard of em) might have put these things in but they might be done really badly. Console ports can have some really badly implemented pc controls or options by 3rd party devs. As in case Saints Row 2.

Really easy to fix that for dead space. Turn the in-game vsync off and then force vsync on using graphics drivers.

This represents a trend we are seeing in PC gaming. There are signs Mass Effect 3 will get the same treatment as they shift away from the RPG side to the FPS (First Person Spammer) side.

I say grateful for the possibility that we may be getting a lot more care when games are being ported over to the PC, not just a copy and paste job.

Never had a problem, i increased mouse sensitivity and the game was easy to control, it's standard for me to immediately increase mouse sensitivity on any game.

Yes then you get an aiming speed you can actually use and a movement speed that sends you in a 360 spin if you move the mouse 2mm to the side.

And frankly the mouse is just the start, the controls as a whole feel crap.
