We should be grateful for full mouse support and more

It this what the devs of Deus Ex are saying?

If so thats beyone belief seeing how the game started out, most console players werent even born when I was playing the first Deus

Meh, it slides down my arsed list even further, last time it slid down a bit was when I noticed everything flashing in orange as if to say "how moron that cant think, come over here"

Any guesses what this might be? I imagine it will be something very mundane/obvious/old like Eyefininity/3D support, or something along those lines.

HAHAHAHAHA.

Jesus christ, you know sometimes you really hope you are wrong, and then quelle suprise.... http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=23525

Can't wait for the next press release, whaddaya reckon boys, maybe we'll get something groundbreaking where you can press a button and save the state of the current game! I'm branding it "FASTSAVE".

Just goes to show that Devs consider PC's 2nd class & that's why they give us ports of games that are developed first & foremost for consoles.

Adding in mouse support etc shows the game was never natively created for the PC format.

Well, from what I'm gathering is that in spite of the trend where we're getting PC games that are pretty much just console ports, with Deus Ex we're getting an actual PC version of the game that is functionally different from the console versions.

Surely this is a good thing, and hopefully more games will steer away from the trend of console porting and instead provide a 'real' PC option.

I think the actual concept isn't that bad (better mouse + kb support... refined UI... DX11/3D etc) it's just the way it has now become some kind of marketing tool where you can paint yourselves as an absolute legend for including these features (note how DICE/EA like to big up the PC support for BF3 too). Someone like Capcom did a great job on some recent PC ports but they didn't sing it from the rooftops the way this is being done.

I think maybe they are fearing a backlash from the DX community (perhaps understably given the reaction to Invisible War) so are trying to make out that the PC version will be a PC game and not just a shoddy console port. Ultimately however the PC gaming community tends to react badly to half measures, so if they go down this route, and actively market the product that way, they'd better make damn sure they do a proper job of it.

The funny thing is that PCGamer got their hands on a PC preview build and mouse support is literally missing from the current build of the game. Here's the exact quote: "the horizontal sensitivity is way higher than the vertical sensitivity, and there isn’t an option to adjust them individually". Or in other words, the mouse is currently emulating gamepad controls where horizontal sensitivity for some reason is much higher than the vertical sensitivity. It's one of the major reasons I can never play fps games on a console. It makes no sense to me to make horizontal sensitivity to differ from vertical but that's how many (if not most?) console shooters are. But surely the Deus Ex team will fix this properly? Right? Although why wouldn't they fix such a simple issue before handing out preview copies for PC reviewers while announcing that their game is properly supported on PC?

Then there's the issue of textures ie. "There’s also no option for texture quality. It never actually bothered me, but I have to mention that a few textures are very blurry in this build.". But still, it's a preview build and they have announced proper PC support so we probably shouldn't worry about issues like these.

“the PC version of the game needed to be a game in itself and not just of port of the console version.” [sic]

Perhaps stupid, but I hold out hope that they won't sully the crap out of a potentially great sequel.

It makes no sense to me to make horizontal sensitivity to differ from vertical but that's how many (if not most?) console shooters are.

The reason it is done is because in the majority of shooters you have turn much more on the X-axis than the Y-axis. Most levels are relatively flat by design i.e. it the majority of the time you will never be looking more than say 30 degrees off centre on the vertical axis. Whereas horizontally, you frequently turn much more than that, up to 180 degrees in either direction.

In fact in the main FPS game I play (Quakeworld) I have marginally reduced mouse pitch because you tend to make much smaller movements and I found the extra precision helps for lining up shots at people's feet etc.

I'd agree it is ludicrous not to let players tweak pitch and yaw independently however. I'd expect there to be an .ini file for it in the retail product, assuming they are using UE3 tech or some offshoot of it.
