Little question, why does it sometimes get really stuffy and humid before a rain shower? I'm thinking due to a saturation of moisture in the air leading to an eventual relief rainfall?

In basic terms, yes, the air is approaching 100% saturation (although usually a few thousand feet above where the temperature is lower).

Nah the smell of the air after it has rained is even better, I think it's like a grassy smell or something!
It's the smell of the spores being released when the rain hits fungi iirc.
