**WEATHER THREAD**

We never pay any attention to the weather forecasts here as it's always wrong. On Sunday we were supposed to have a high of 5 degrees. Try -8 degrees!! It took me 20 minutes to clear the car of frost and that de-icer spray stuff froze as it hit the windows. We went on a trip to Aberdeen for the sales and went across country to get to the A96. We got between Dufftown and Huntly and there was nothing. No frost at all. This was 15-20 miles away. Aberdeen was quite mild as well and that's next to the sea.

Today we had a high of -9 degrees and it's dropping away again now. It's really bitterly cold here. There's no wind which is a small blessing but it's just so cold. On the plus side, the pc is very cool. The River Spey has had ice floating down it since Sunday and it's pretty wide, deep and fast through here. It's been colder so far this Winter than last year. The heating went on a month earlier too. So much for global warming!!
 
You've gotta remember that the weather station for your area may actually be quite a while away from where you are.

E.g. our weather station is in lyneham which is an RAF base about 10 miles away, and although the land around us is pretty similar so we tend to get the same weather, yours may not, i.e. the weather station could be out of a valley or mountainous area, whereas you'd be in one, protected from the wind and the sun, making for a colder climate in your location compared to where the station is.

Best off getting your own little home weather station or barometer :)

I went up the village earlier this evening, car hasn't moved since Christmas day, took about 10 mins to remove a cm of ice from all the glass, and get the handbrake off, which required a torch and blunt implement.

They don't have this much ice in the med.

Used to be stationed at Lyneham. I was on UKMAMS there. Loved the area. I guess our weather station is at Lossiemouth or Kinloss which are both on the coast. We had a low of -11 last night and it's "warmed up" to -8 again now. The River Spey is like a giant slush puppy now and is frozen solid for about 6 feet out from the bank on either side. There are even "icebergs" floating down it!!

I have been thinking about getting one of those home weather stations for a while now. It will be interesting to record the weather from day to day and compare to the previous year.
 
Take it you're (ex)RAF then :) My dad was there for a time as an engineer in the early 90's (nice and close to home compared to where he is now! {amsterdam, although for commercial jets now}).

Lets have some pics of this slush puppy river then :D It's -2 here, and we had a thick fog last night and a low of -4 so all the spiderwebs and tree branches have moisture frozen to them today. Looks quite pretty actually, I'll get a few pics.
