Web browser

I'd go along with Burnsy although I have been dabbling with the new Opera Beta and have found it surprisingly good.

The new opera is definitely fast, faster than Chrome I'd say, although does seem to have a few more weird rendering issues e.g. it fails to render the bbc news feeds on my iGoogle homepage correctly.
Still, it has by far the best Windows 7 integration of any browser so far.

Opera really can be hit and miss at times. It still can't load an eBay selling page properly. Flash runs terribly on it. I don't even bother with e.g. iPlayer/Facebook Scrabble on it any more.

I permanently have IE7 open now for SkyPlayer (Silverlight) and iPlayer, I don't really mind which browser I use as long as it does what I want with ease.

I'd be using Chrome right now for speed if I could just save sessions of tabs like in Opera.

Edit - some of the skins on Chrome look fantastic as well.

So people are rating IE 8 above Firefox for security these days? Where are the claims coming from? Wouldn't mind seeing some articles as if it truly is more secure I would move over! Or are people just saying "It's more secure" for the fun of it?

EDIT: Have been having a look around and found this - http://www.eweekeurope.co.uk/comment/internet-explorer-8---more-secure-than-firefox-and-chrome--1648

Seems IE 8 is indeed more secure than Firefox with Chrome vastly poorer than both of them (but then again the article is a few months old and Chrome was new back then). I personally don't like Chrome anyway so I would use either IE 8 or Firefox. I've never heard of the Google SafeBrowsing plugin for Firefox that the article mentions though. Anyone used it?

I use firefox as it seems pretty quick altho I try not to have too many extensions.
I thought chrome seemed ok and it seemed fast but it seems to open numerous processes? (not sure if this is normal)

On opening firefox I get 1 process of 24mb. On opening chrome I get 3 processes, 1 is 34mb and other 2 are 14mb :( (this is with no extensions or addons installed)

It runs a process for each tab, So if one tab breaks it doesn't cause the browser to break/become unresponsive :P simplest term I could explain it in really.

Chrome uses a separate process for things like plugins and each tab, so you'll get a lot more processes and in theory higher memory usage to boot.

The reason it's "more secure" is because IE has Protected Mode and so does Chrome. Thus, if there are any vulnerabilities the damage they can do should be reduced because the browser's running at a lower privilege level than even your user account.

Given the number of vulnerabilities in apps that provide plugins (like Flash, or Acrobat), though, it's debatable how important Protected Mode is.

Using chrome here and loving it not had any issues until i go to buy something on ocuk or something sometimes the links just stop working lol :D

cool :) , does that mean it opens 3 tabs when u start it up? (only shows 1 open)

Right click the blue/glass bit at the top and select Task Manager. It spawns processes for other things than tabs, like plugins and the core browser parts.
