I couldn't find a forum for this so please excuse if it is in the wrong place.

I am looking for some recommendations for webcams. Thing is that this is more for covering a room, so ideally the lens needs to be not so wide and really important the mic has to be really good. I don't care if the video is a bit poor but the mic must be really good. Perhaps a separate mic and camera? Any suggestions?

Have you got a budget in mind? Can get lots of different things but budget will be the main thing for the standard you'll get

So many options.

What are you wanting to hear in the room ? For whole room listening pzm mics are used in my work. They flat mount on the wall and some can hear very very well (as in whispers)

As for cameras .... Are you wanting remote viewing ? Recording on a pc in the room ? Etc etc.

I want to hear me! I will be about 6 meters from the mic and I want it to pick me up with no issues. The camera is less important but the speech is critical. I don't want people to be straining to hear what I am saying!

Yeah, you'll need a seperate mic ... a lot of cameras have mic inputs, so not much of an issue. and dont for a minute think that the mic has to sit beside the camera.

a couple of options I suppose ...

(1)
a directional mic ( those long thin things ) pointed at you will go a long way to isolating your sound from the ambient around you. However, you're 6 meters away ... and are you moving about in the room ? if so, the mic wont track you. You could also have the mic closer to you than the camera, and run a wire back to the camera.

(2)
a LAV mic ( the wee clip on mics like you see on a TV presenter ). They come in wired or wireless. So you could clip onto you, walk about anywhere in the room, and the receiver can plug into the camera ... perfect sound. I think this would be the best option personally given the short description of your needs.
