Personally I like "Trebuchet MS" as my main body text.

Use @font-face for headings and the like, or if you cant for whatever reason, use an image replacement technique.

There's a program by CoffeeCup that allows you to use any font on your web design without converting it to an image. Might be worth having a look.

After a quick glance it looks like that just uses sIFR technology, but charges for it.

Verdana for any body content personally.

I remember when everyone was using 10px verdana. This was back in like 2003.
