web hosting suggestions ????

any suggestions for the best one not wanting to spend more than 5 per month to be honest , ive seen 1&1's hosting it looks ok but does it support php etc ???? any other suggestions
 
I think no one can touch dream host in this day and age for shared hosting. It cost me £11 for the year for 150GB of space and 1TB of bandwidth unlimited mysql databases and enough email account's for anyone.

www.dreamhost.com and use google to find the $97 cupon code. It will give you around £50 off your bill for the year. So you have to pay £11 for the whole year one time.

You can't even come close to using that much because they have a CPU usage limit. Basically, the amount of CPU usage you'd require to use that much resources would be far over what they allow you. If you even came remotely close, they would demand that you go with dedicated hosting.

Other than that, I have two websites on dreamhost and I haven't had any problems.
 
I have heard dreamhost goes down often, personally I would rather pay a little more and get something more reliable. The bandwidth and storage they offer is irrelevant and nothing more than a way of reeling people in with big numbers if you ask me. That said, what you get for the money is pretty good.

I had read that before I got my shared hosting through them and was a little apprehensive but decided to give it a shot as the first year was so cheap. I'm glad I did as I'll definitely be renewing when my account comes up. I've had zero problems myself.

I think the reason for hearing about their problems is because Dreamhost lists any and all problems right on their webpage (everything from hardware failure to server reboots.) Every large host has problems but I don't know of any others that list those problems right out in the open. Also, when you consider how large their server farm must be (they host hundreds of thousands of sites), I'm sure the number of problems is about normal.
 
I have hosting with dreamhost, and have never seen it go down, in 2/3 months anyway. I use about 8gb usage, my own personal sites including gallery site most of my digi pics.

Used the 97$ code and works out very cheap indeed. Normally you get what you pay for, but no complaints here with their hosting. Control panel takes a little to get used to, but then i was used to helm.

agreed i was like wtf is this for a sec but now its a lot more easier after a couple of hours of messing around


do you know how to download your mail to outlook by anychance ?
 
i did decide and its www.vaux5.net if any one wants to slate =P but i may have to move elsewhere after a year as i dont think im willing to pay 60 for it =S.... just looked at it and awsome think that will be me sorted for next year

You don't really need more than one SQL database so long as the application supports prefixes, although, granted, it is quite a bit neater if you ever need to go through the fun that is phpMyAdmin
