hi all,

Looking at creating a website for my photography hobby and maybe using it if I decide to try making a living from it.

Currently have web space with one.com but they are awful and I refuse to give them any money.

So, any suggestions?

will be purchasing my domain from 123reg and would like a host that allows subdomains if possible and fast setup times.

I will be trying lots of different photography packages such as pixelpost etc although I don't know if that allows the option to add ecommerce.

thanks for the link Beansprout, I had seen that before but many of the reviews are a few years old now.

I've been looking at TSOHost, Fasthost and Vidahost anyway so perhaps I am looking at the right things.

Is there anything in particular to be aware of when buying hosting?

All hosts tend to be pretty much the same these days in terms of reliability. What it comes down to is support, which is why people recommend Tsohost or Vidahost.

My vote goes to Tsohost. :)

My god, avoid Fasthosts like the plaugue - go with tso or vida.

The only thing that influenced my decision at the time was the two different websites - tso looks a bit amateurish compared to vidahost. Small things like that make the difference for some people I think. Probably not much difference in the service though. Dom at Vida has set up some accounts for me within 5mins at 2am. Excellent service.

Vidahost have been ace for me. Dom is a legend support wise :)

I agree with this. I've only needed assistance twice but both have been at late hours and both times I was answered within minutes.

Sure, tso and vida may be a bit more expensive than some but knowing that the high level of support/customer service is there when you need it is well worth it imo.
