Hi Guys,

Im just curious how people are using WnW and how having 'unlimited' data access has changed the way they are using their mobiles. Just want to find out from other users how good this service is (rather than a gimmick like most of 3G :p), what restrictions they have found and in light of other service providers if they would have changed their decision (i.e. moving to WnW Pro for example)...

As a lot of you know (probably) Im eagerly awaiting the Vario II and want to use it primarily with WnW (probably Pro - need to iron out differences between the two), but want to make sure that it would end up as a gadget feature, but indeed will make my life a bit easier and perhaps more functional...

I think its something a lot of people would find useful to know especially with all the smart/pda phones on the market now that do a lot more than just make calls and the fact that network providers are now embracing this extra features with more affrodable packages/rates...

So guys - just add to my ramblings...

I'm using data quite a lot on my phone (MDA Pro), maybe a couple of times a day on the web, and checking my email 3 or 4 times. I use it in work for OCUK to get round the web filters, and generally the connection speed is excellent. There have been a couple of days where 3G hasn't worked when it was supposed to, but switching to GPRS made it all better.

I still think of the phone as a gadget, but that's primarily the reason that I bought it. It is admittedly very useful, it's my MP3 player as well, and I will regret the day I move back to a normal (i.e. portable) phone.

With switching to their £1 for unlimited browsing I must have used 100Mb+ on some days and even more streaming video and music from my home pc. ;)

100mb? Streaming is against there terms and conditions isnt it?, the payg version is like the £7.50 a month web n walk tariff

Do you not think that doing things like that spoil it for other users who use it for the way it was intended, emails and browsing?

If people start doing that then its going to go the way of broadband with caps and regs everywhere.

*Web 'n' walk terms and conditions

Compatible handset required. £1 maximum daily charge applies to Mates Rates, Everyone and Text Appeal customers. Charges of 0.73p per KB applies until £1 per day (midnight to midnight) is spent. If you have already spent £1 and you browse for a continuous period from before midnight to after midnight, all of that period will be charged at the new day’s rate of 0.73p per KB. Not applicable to connection via CSD. Additional charges apply for use outside the UK.
Fair use policy applies. To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers, the web 'n' walk service is not to be used for other activities such as (but not limited to): modem access for computers, internet based video/audio streaming services, peer to peer file sharing, internet based video downloads and internet based telephony. If such use is detected, notice may be given, after which network protection controls may be applied which will result in a reduced speed of transmission.

As a interesting note on the PRO package they state you cant use IM where as you can on the normal one? Strange eh?

On a side note my mda pro is set to check email every 60 mins and agile messenger is normally connected a few times a day, if msn messenger worked properly on the mda i would be connected all day but if anything the handset is still flaky the new Vario II addresses a lot of issues and looks fantastic. I would browse more often but when ever u really need it, it runs to slow to be of any use. Maybe because of people that misuse the service perhaps?

It is a brilliant idea, but handsets or software needs to be better to take full use of it imo

Definitely changed my data usage via a mobile phone since the past 3 months that ive been on WnW with my flext50 tariff.
I use it to download emails and browse my various rss feeds via my k800i. Also i will browse the net now and again but i find the k800i screen not that good when browsing web pages...too small and narrow for my liking.

But really im waiting for my p990i which hopefully should be with me sometime this week where i will definitely get the best out of the WnW tariff. Bigger screen means i can browse the net more easily and also having agile messenger means that i can keep in touch with my work colleagues and friends without me having to use my work pc.

Well because your breaking there terms and conditions, which are in place to stop people congesting the network.

You dont seem to have read the above yet?

Or do you feel immune from there t+c's? Or as ive asked have i misunderstood the terms?

Ive stated it and posted the link?

Don't believe everything you read. ;) Internet providers always say this when the truth is it costs them bandwidth thats they don't want you using lots, the amount of people that browse the internet on their mobiles leave loads of unused bandwidth for users like me, it isn't affecting anyone at all. If they were really having a problem they would charge for bandwidth and not give an unlimited service.

So T-mobile are lying about there own Terms and conditions?

Look at whats happened to broadband where people abused it, there never used to be any caps or fair use policy. Then people abused it and look what happened.

You dont seem to get the fact that its unlimited only is when it's not being abused.

You seem to think its fine so ill leave it there

Well it seems to have happened due to people taking the proverbial out of them T- mobile are now/soon to be going to change the t+c's again

Due at the end of the month.................Whether this means people that are already on it get changed im not sure, as the £7.50 one is pointless to me without the use of IM which was of the reasons i signed up.

This was from a mate at T- mobile, so as always when you hear it from a source other than direct treat with a pinch of salt.....

If it is true then i hope the people that thought it was ok to take the POOP now realise what they have done

For £7.50 per month...

Web browsing and E-Mail access only. 1GB fair use policy.

For £12.50 a month...

Web browsing, Email, Modem Use, Streaming Media, Downloads and IM (NO VOIP). 3GB fair usage policy.

For £22.50 a month...

Everything, including VOIP. 10GB fair usage policy.

There will also be a dedicated data card tariff.

The service has in fact got much better then. You were previously only allowed to use it for email and browsing on any web and walk tariffs (except pro for £20), but now on higher ones you can download as well and you now have a much higher bandwidth limit than before. It used to be £20 for 2GB and now it's £12 for 3GB, thats fantastically better. They didn't allow people to download more than 1gb anyway on the lowest tariff, it was never unlimited just like all the other isps. Since I'm on p&g though these changes don't seem to effect me.

it hasnt got better at all! the £7.50 a month people may now not be able to use IM

I suspect they will bring the same over to payg as well

That has always been the case, I emailed them ages ago and they said they do not permit messenging programs that use a client like msn messenger. They don't actually do anything about it though.

we went over this one before and i quoted there t+cs at the time........the £7.50 one was fine for IM when it was first introduced.....

Minimum term contact and credit check applies. Compatible handset required. Fair use policy applies: Relax + web 'n' walk, Flext + web 'n' walk and U-Fix web 'n' walk price plans provide unlimited internet browsing on mobile handsets in the UK. To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers, they are not to be used for other activities such as (but not limited to): modem access for computers, internet based video/audio streaming services, peer to peer file sharing, internet based video download and internet based telephony. If such use is detected, notice may be given, after which network protection controls may be applied which will result in a reduced speed of transmission.

Still doesnt say anything about IM, its on the higher packages that it seems to be barred....But with this bit "other activities such as (but not limited to" i guess they can change it as they see fit but they still dont mention it directly where as they do on the other packages.

My point is they are only doing this as people are obviously abusing it

And they only did nothing about it as it wasnt being abused, obviously they are clamping down now the same way as dsl suppliers have had to as people take the proverbial

Its web n walk pro that bans IM

Web ‘n’ Walk professional is subject to a minimum term contract and credit check. Compatible handset or device required. To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers, a fair use policy applies. T-Mobile defines fair use as total UK data use (both sent and received) of up to 2GB per month. T-Mobile may contact customers who exceed this volume of data in two (or more) consecutive months in any six month period to ask them to reduce their usage. If usage is not reduced, notice may be given, after which network protection controls may be applied which will result in a reduced speed of transmission. Use of Voice over Internet Protocol and Messaging over Internet Protocol is prohibited by T-Mobile. If use of either or both of these services is detected T-Mobile may terminate all contracts with the customer and disconnect any SIM cards and/or web ‘n’ walk cards from the T-Mobile network.

Either way you do get more for your money now in terms of bandwidth, in fact I'm thinking of switching to one of these new tariffs if they are real, as it would be cheaper than p&g currently is, I seriously doubt they would do anything to stop people using msn on the lowest tariff and through vpn it wouldn't be detectable anyway. I don't see how they are clamping down, they are now allowing people not on pro to download and give them a lot of bandwidth. I mean now the £22 option is 10GB not 2GB and you can use IM, win win for the heavy user.
