I need to produce a couple of websites for family businesses. Nothing too complex, just brochure-ware really.
I don't want to have to pay some 'creative' in DMs and dungarees £400 each (!) when I'm fairly sure I can do this myself. I used Dreamweaver a couple of times back around the turn of the century (of course I was ver', ver' drrunk), how hard can this can be ?

I'm looking for a some sort of GUI interface and that's easy to use and easy to edit / upload. What can you recommend ?

I can do it with a suitable tool. Which is what I'm asking for help with.
Your comment doesn't help with either a suitable tool, advice on a designer or in anyway other than telling me that I shouldn't ask questions ?
Thanks for that....

You should post in the HTML and graphics section.

Also maybe dont insult the people that will more than likley answer your questions

Sorry but if you are fairly sure you can do it and not have to pay, you wouldn't ask questions now would you?

How about downloading trial apps you know of and 'trying'?.... Dreamweaver isn't free either. ;)

PS I recommended Notepad ++ because it is a nice gui..... How do I know what you can and can't use?

You'd probably be far better off using something like WordPress which comes with loads of themes and plugins rather than doing it from hand if you're not too used to doing it yourself.

Most hosts have a one-click set-up for WordPress anyway nowadays.

I think you've misunderstood. I expect to pay for the software, or for a professional but not both and not £400 x2.
To re-iterate I believe that I can indeed do it for myself given the right tool, for which I would expect to pay. Asking questions as to the best tool to use is a perfectly valid question.

I'll have a look at Notepad ++ and refresh Dream weaver.

Sorry. The two quoted above are free. Wordpress & WYSIWYG.

You would like to increase skills? You think you know how to build a website but the software side you need help on?

Exactly. My skills are woeful and out of date, but would like to (re)learn, and I'm looking for best software to do that.
I am fully aware of how complex a full-service website would be, and I'm not even going to attempt that. I'm just looking to put a brochure and email out there.

If you want it really really simple then try Netobjects Fusion.

I used it some years ago it was pretty simple to setup, I'm struggling on with Dreamweaver now...at some point I'm going to have to try and understand what the dickens CSS is all about...:(
