Morning all .

looking for a little advice please.

We have had a website for the last 17 years , originally hosted by a hosting company , but 5 years ago we switched to yell.com.
we just don't seem to get a lot of work from our site , and i'm starting to think yell is a waste of time .it was fine in the old days of the yellow pages as we paid for a large printed advert.

we have a facebook page and a Twitter account ( but i can't get my head around Twitter) the Twitter link on the website is a generic one and i'm talking to Yell to get this changed .

I'm a 50 something Sign maker so not really clued up on all things Internet so any advice would be greatly appreciated to make our company stand out .

These are the links to our website and facebook page

thanks Rob

Regarding your webpage, it may be that your meta tags need sorting out. Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page's content; the meta tags don't appear on the page itself, but only in the page's code. Meta tags are little content descriptors that help tell search engines what a web page is about. Make sure you put key words in your meta tags so that your webpage can be read by search engines like google and placed at or near the top of a search results page. You can find the meta tags section in the admin section of your website.

I think you could benefit from some facebook marketing to local people around you. Promoting content to a local audience could help build more of an active audience around you. With anything now days, content is king. The more new content you have, on your site or facebook, with relevant keywords, the more likely you are to be found.

Just adding my 2p in here, but it may benefit you if people could leave a review of the work you've done for them on something like Trustpilot. I've certainly picked some businesses over others just from reading peoples thoughts/reviews on Trustpilot.

Another thing I've noticed is that some of the pictures on your website look a bit blurred, maybe getting someone to take some more professional looking photos would help?

Facebook adverts are the most annoying thing ever. I personally make a point in NOT ever using a company that I see advertising on FB.

I know you're not overly clued up on twitter, but given the nature of your business, an Instagram account showing your work is a good option to explore.

yeah , we have a instagram account , i might change the twitter link to the instagram one ? only last week one of our customers asked us to remove the twitter logo from their signage and replace with the instagram logo

IMO Instagram is the better promotion tool for you, twitter is full of trolls and pointless arguing. Instagram is a visually more striking method of customer interaction. You only have to look at tattoo artists for example, to see that their work posted on Instagram, is also their advertising tool. You'd be the same, get examples of your work up on Instagram so that others can see the quality and hopefully get referrals from that.

You can private message etc on Instagram now too for customer interaction.

Looks good. It's clean, easy to navigate, I like that all the titles are green, makes it easy to skim read the page. My only comment is how come there are two vertical borders either side of the main content that don't quite match the background image?

dunno ? is it because its mobile friendly ?

I've just noticed that one off my competitors (when you google search a specific sign ) has mentioned my company name and five other local sign firms in his signature ( the text under his company name on the Google page )

what does he hope to gain from this ? if he's trying to pick up our "traffic" would this work ? seems a little unethical ?
